What makes a recipe-card scanner useful?

Reading the words is only the first step. A useful recipe app must separate ingredients from directions, preserve quantities and fractions, keep the photo as a reference, make corrections obvious, and store the finished recipe where family members can find it later.

Recommended test protocol

  1. Use the same phone and lighting for every app.
  2. Include printed cards, cursive handwriting, faded ink, stains, shorthand, and two-sided cards.
  3. Record import time and required manual corrections.
  4. Check ingredient quantities, fractions, oven temperatures, timing, and step order.
  5. Verify whether the original image remains available.
  6. Test editing, search, sharing, and export after scanning.
